Span nervous, excited to play again for Twins

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Denard Span has returned to the Minnesota Twins’ lineup for the first time in more than five weeks.

Span was in the leadoff spot for Wednesday night’s game against the Seattle Mariners, his first action since Aug. 13. The center fielder has played in only 65 games this season, because of post-concussion symptoms that spawned a problem with migraine headaches.

Span first hurt his head in a home-plate collision on June 3 and was placed on the disabled list six days later. He didn’t play again until Aug. 2 and had just two hits in 35 at-bats until landing on the disabled list again. Span was bothered by dizziness and fogginess, symptoms similar to those he endured two years ago while dealing with an inner-ear condition.
