State Commissioner of Public Lands Peter Goldmark will join volunteers in a cleanup of Yacolt Burn State Forest this Saturday. The event coincides with several other local service projects for National Public Lands Day.

People can begin to gather for Saturday’s “Pick Up the Burn” event starting at 8 a.m. at the Jones Creek Trailhead, in Yacolt Burn State Forest north of Camas. After a 9 a.m. welcome and safety briefing, work will continue until a 2 p.m. lunch. In nine years, the event has removed thousands of tons of garbage from the forest, which burned in the early 20th century.

Members of the public are invited to participate in the cleanup. Directions to the site are available on the Jones Creek Trail Riders’ website, http://www.jctra.org.
