Ill-fated kittens may have fallen from minivan

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) -- The Oregon Humane Society says curiosity, not cruelty may have been the problem in the case of kittens initially reported to have been tossed from a moving minivan in Portland.
Society investigators now say the kittens likely crawled into the vehicle's undercarriage and fell out as the owner drove to work.
No animal abuse charges are planned.
One severely injured kitten had to be euthanized. Two others were taken to the humane society to recover. A fourth kitten apparently completed the Sept. 1 trip safely and was later found in Vancouver, near the van owner's workplace.
KGW-TV reports (http://bit.ly/pLjlvV) that a woman who saw the station's initial story went to the humane society to say the kittens were hers. Investigators interviewed both her and her husband.
