BELLINGHAM, Wash. (AP) -- A truck hauling liquid nitrogen crashed and overturned on Interstate 5 at Bellingham, spilling the chemical that evaporated in an icy fog.
The crash in the northbound lanes and another truck that jackknifed about the same time in the southbound lanes blocked freeway traffic Thursday morning. All lanes reopened by noon.
Washington State Patrol Trooper Bob Wilson said the driver of the overturned truck was taken to St. Joseph hospital with a broken arm.
The Bellingham Herald reports (http://bit.ly/nM3TlT ) the truck was carrying 2,000 gallons of liquid nitrogen.
A fire department hazardous material team responded but there was no lasting threat to the public.
