SALEM, Ore. (AP) — The state Senate has confirmed Gov. John Kitzhaber’s nominees to the Health Insurance Exchange Board.

The Senate confirmation on Thursday allows the nine-member board to begin work on creating the health insurance exchange, a corporation that will help connect consumers and small businesses with health insurance.

Lawmakers voted earlier this year to create the exchange. Kitzhaber’s nominees include small business owners, health policy advocates, an industry executive and a union leader.

The Senate delayed a vote on confirming Kitzhaber’s appointees to the Education Investment Board, which will look at merging oversight of education policy and spending.
