National Forest Service fire staff will start a prescribed burn of about 160 acres of the Sawtooth Berry Fields in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest around noon on Friday.

The fields are located to the north of Indian Heaven Wilderness along Forest Road 30.

Smoke from the burn is expected to move north over unpopulated areas, according to a forest service bulletin.

Burning could continue through Saturday.

The burn was planned in conjunction with the Yakima Tribe to enhance huckleberry production in the area, according to a forest service bulletin.

Tribal fire personnel will help with the burn.
