Ecuador man gets 10 years for 30 pounds of heroin

SEATTLE (AP) -- A federal judge has sentenced a 34-year-old Ecuadorian national to ten years in prison for possessing heroin with the intent to distribute.

The Seattle U.S. Attorney's office says Hugo Acosta-Loja is an illegal immigrant who had left the country around 2008 after law enforcement agencies began investigating his drug dealing ring in western Washington. Acosta-Loja returned to Edmonds, Wash., in 2010 where he resumed drug dealing. He was arrested outside his home in November of 2010 with 30 pounds of heroin and around $170,000. Acosta-Loja will be deported following his prison term.

U.S. District Judge Marsh J. Pechman told Acosta on Friday that he was not welcomed in the United States.
