Prep roundup: Local runners tops at Nike meet

Heritage girls bring home team title in their division

Union freshman Alexis Fuller, Heritage senior Abby Knight, and Mountain View senior Connor Niemi were tops in their divisions Saturday at the Nike Pre-National cross country event held at Portland Meadows.

Knight topped a field of 104 runners in Division 3 with a time of 19:33.98 on the 5,000-meter course. Her teammate Miranda Fleming was ninth (21:32.30) as Heritage claimed the team title in their division with 66 points.

Fuller topped a field of 87 runners to win the Division 2 race. She won in 18:31.28. Her teammate Kaitlyn McKinney came in fourth (19:55.15) as Union finished second out of 13 in the team standings.

Niemi won the boys Division 2 race in 16:31.42, topping a field of 87 runners.

In Division 3 girls, Mountain View’s Hanna Walton placed seventh and the Thunder finished third in the team race.

Camas’ Alexa Efraimson placed third out of 98 runners in the Jim Danner Championship race, in 17:58.20.

In the boys Division 1 race, Union’s Roman Kirkov placed second among 134 runners with a time of 16:14.26. Teammate Tanner Sork was fourth in 16:20.57.

Skyview’s Colby Gilbert placed second in the Division 3 race (16:28.93) out of 87 runners.

Gourley, Tedder first in Seaside — Jayden Gourley of Hockinson and Mark Tedder of Battle Ground won races as part of the 3 Course Challenge in Seaside.

The competition features three races for both boys and girls — a 4,500-meter easy course, 5,000-meter hard course, and 5,000-meter moderate course — with each runner’s race being selected by random drawing.

Gourley won the girls 5K on the moderate course, finishing in 22:31.

Tedder won the boys 5K on the moderate course, finishing in 18:15.

Chantelle Blundell of Hockinson was fifth in the girls 5,000 hard course, and Anthony Lee of Columbia River was fifth in the boys 4,500 easy course.

Boys tennis

Thunder Invitational — Skyview’s Kent Andreasen won the tournament, defeating Joseph De La Cruz of Todd Beamer, 6-2, 6-3.

Drew Shanafelt and Nathan Stahley of Olympia won the doubles title over Mountain View’s Kyle Lowe and Chieh Han 6-1, 6-2.

Olympia won the team title. Mountain View was second and Columbia River third.
