McNeese State pulls away from SE Louisiana 48-27

LAKE CHARLES, La. (AP) — McNeese State scored 21 consecutive points in a 10-minute stretch of the second half for a 48-27 victory over Southeastern Louisiana on Saturday night in the teams’ Southland Conference opener.

The victory was the sixth in a row for the Cowboys (2-1) over the Lions (1-3).

After Southeastern Louisiana narrowed a 24-10 halftime deficit to 24-20 in the third quarter, the Cowboys made it 31-20 after a 26-yard Cody Stroud pass to Darius Carey and four straight runs by Marcus Wiltz, the last from 4 yards out.

Two possessions later, Andre Anderson broke loose from 55 yards out for the Cowboys to make it 38-20.

On their next drive, five straight rushes by Wiltz were followed by Stroud’s 8-yard scoring pass to Javaris Murray.

Anderson had 118 yards on 15 carries and Wiltz 104 on 18 carries.

Brian Young threw for 288 yards and three touchdowns for the Lions.
