PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — A surfer has helped to rescue three men after a wave flipped their aluminum crabbing boat off the south jetty near Newport.

The Oregon State Police report the surfer, who was not identified by police, saw the vessel capsize Saturday morning and swam to the three men, putting two of them on his board while the third held onto his ankles.

The U.S. Coast Guard arrived after 20 minutes and took the men to a facility.

Two of the men were treated at a local hospital for hypothermia and minor injuries.

The men were heading past the south jetty to go crapping on the 18-foot aluminum boat. They had decided to turn back when the wave struck and capsized their boat.
