Talking Points: Lockout needs to end

What’s the buzz from the world of sports? Here are some items that will have people talking:

The NBA is not “The Sopranos.”

It has to realize that. It can’t take a couple seasons and return to the same level of fanfare as the former HBO series did. The NBA is more like a episode of “24.”

With the Heat’s run to the Finals last year, we’re all waiting in suspense to see what happens next — but if too much time goes by, we’ll lose interest fast.

Even if it means big-time concessions, both sides of the labor dispute need to come to an agreement soon for the greater good of the league. Friday, the league announced it will lose 43 preseason games. If this thing isn’t settled soon, it could stand to lose more.

The most exciting athlete to grace Portland in nearly a year was at Jeld-Wen Field Thursday. And she won’t be back anytime soon.

Abby Wambach of the U.S. women’s national team scored two goals and gave everything the fans were hoping to see.
