SISTERS, Ore. (AP) — A 37-year-old Eugene climber was killed Saturday when he fell near the summit of North Sister in the Three Sisters Wilderness.

Lane County Search & Rescue says Brian C. Jones fell around 1 p.m. Saturday down the mountain’s west gullies. His climbing partner witnessed the fall.

The Register-Guard says (http://bit.ly/mViUr7 ) an Air National Guard Black Hawk helicopter crew located Jones’ body, but was unable to reach him because of high winds at the 9,000 foot elevation level.

Rescue teams on the ground could not reach him Sunday morning because of near whiteout conditions.
