DUNSANY, Ireland (AP) — Europe won the Solheim Cup for the first time since 2003 on Sunday, finishing powerfully to beat the United States 15-13 at Killeen Castle.

Caroline Hedwall of the Netherlands earned a crucial halved match with Ryann O’Toole — after being two down with two holes left — to give Europe a 14-13 lead.

With Spain’s Azahara Munoz one up against Angela Stanford after a birdie at the 17th in the final singles, Europe was guaranteed to achieve the 1412 points required for victory. Munoz went on to win her match.

Earlier Michelle Wie lost two late holes to fall to Europe’s Suzann Pettersen.
