Mariners' Hernandez says he's OK with dark bruise
Sunday, September 25, 2011
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) -- That dark bruise a few inches about Felix Hernandez's right wrist has plenty of time to heal.
The Seattle ace says he's OK a day after taking a liner off his forearm in his last scheduled start of the season. He displayed the bruise Sunday before the Mariners' series finale at Texas.
When Hernandez was asked when he'd be able to throw again, he responded "I don't need to throw anymore."
A season after winning the AL Cy Young Award, the big right-hander finished 14-14 with a 3.47 ERA and 222 strikeouts in 233 2-3 innings.
Hernandez got struck Saturday by Michael Young's one-out liner. The 3 1-3 innings was his shortest start this season. He was 0-3 with a 7.71 ERA his last three starts.
