NEW YORK (AP) — Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman James Wisniewski has been suspended for the rest of the preseason and the first eight regular-season games for a blow to the head.

The NHL said Monday that Wisniewski will also forfeit $536,585.36 for the illegal check to the head of Minnesota Wild forward Cal Clutterbuck after the horn sounded at the end of regulation in a preseason game Friday.

Wisniewski is classified as a repeat offender because he received a suspension last season.

Wisniewski is the second player to be suspended Monday for a hit from the game. Wild forward Brad Staubitz is out for the rest of the preseason and the first three regular-season games for an illegal check on Columbus’ Cody Bass from behind.
