Bears says balance not issue against Packers

LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) — Chicago Bears coach Lovie Smith says there is a simple reason his team is still lacking balance on offense.

Smith says the Bears just couldn’t get their run game going in Sunday’s 27-17 loss to Green Bay and had no choice but to pass.

Even so, those statistics are hard to ignore. Chicago finished with 13 yards, third fewest in franchise history, on 12 attempts. That includes a scramble and two fumble recoveries by Cutler, who was also 21 of 37 while getting sacked three times, meaning the Bears called 43 passes and nine runs.

Last week, Chicago called for 52 passes and 11 runs in a loss to New Orleans. Smith said it was a “totally different situation” against the Packers.
