Letter: Peace and Justice Fair memorable

The Columbian

The 2011 Peace and Justice Fair was special this year. Several dozen nonprofit groups got together to showcase what America is all about. It is still the land of opportunity, because opposite organizations in the same Esther Short Park were placarding what they are good at.

In a six-hour period on Sept. 10, we not only told our own story, but we received a better understanding of what is going on in the wider community. Case in point: across the walkway from our exhibit was the exhibit of Muslims who had worked together with us on a weekend Habitat project.

America is truly the land of opportunity, where people can have a fresh start, as did our forefathers more than two centuries ago. As the song has it: “This land is your land/ This land is my land.” Prayerfully, may it is so in the coming years.
