DETROIT (AP) — Eli Holman, a 6-foot-10 prep star who became a key player for the University of Detroit after transferring from Indiana, is on an indefinite leave of absence.

Athletic director Keri Gaither disclosed the leave on Tuesday and said the school had been working with Holman in addressing unspecified “personal matters.”

Gaither says it is Holman’s best interest “to step away from basketball” to focus on the personal issues.

Holman, a senior from Richmond, Calif., played in six games at Indiana before hurting his wrist. He transferred to Detroit and sat out the 2008-09 season before starring for the Titans. He averaged 11.8 points and a team-best 9.6 rebounds last season.
