Family questions shooting of veteran by police

SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — The family of James Edward Rogers is questioning why he was shot and killed by Spokane police.

Authorities have released few details about the Monday evening standoff that ended with Rogers’ death. His family wonders why police fired as a negotiator pleaded with Rogers to surrender, reminding the veteran of his seven children.

The Spokane County Medical Examiner’s Office determined after an autopsy Tuesday that the 45-year-old Rogers died of gunshot wounds but did not say how many. Police have not said if Rogers fired a shot.
