BOLTON, England (AP) — Bolton says midfielder Stuart Holden will be sidelined for six months following surgery on the same knee that sidelined him for a half-year before his return last week.

Holden needed 26 stitches following a challenge by Manchester United defender Jonny Evans in a Premier League match in March.

Holden made his long-awaited return on Sept. 20 in the League Cup against Aston Villa, but Bolton announced Wednesday that Holden will underwent a “routine procedural followup.”

Bolton manager Owen Coyle says Holden “went in for the procedure this afternoon and it was picked up that the cartilage was damaged and needed to be repaired, which has now happened.”
