BEREA, Ohio (AP) — Browns running back Peyton Hillis said he doesn’t care if others think he should have played last week despite having strep throat and flu-like symptoms. He wasn’t going to jeopardize his health.

Hillis spoke in detail Thursday for the first time since missing Sunday’s game against Miami. He went to the game intending to play but was sent home two hours before kickoff. Hillis defended his decision to miss the game and said he’s isn’t concerned if others don’t agree.

Hillis said he lost “10 to 12” pounds while he was ill. He said he had no energy before the game and that played into him missing the game. Hillis sidestepped a question the Browns coaches tried to talk him into playing.

He returned to practice this week and expects to play Sunday against Tennessee.
