Family-friendly soccer hits Turkey this weekend

ANKARA, Turkey (AP) -- The Turkish soccer association says plans to allow women and children under 16 to watch league games for free will take effect this weekend.
Turkey is trying to encourage women and children to attend games in a bid to reduce violence and swearing at male-dominated games.
The association says it would reimburse clubs for a quota of free tickets they must allocate to women and children. Free tickets would be distributed for games as of Saturday.
Earlier this month, the association changed its rules to bar men from attending games played by teams sanctioned for fan trouble instead of forcing them to play in empty stadiums. As a result, more than 41,000 women and children attended a game between Fenerbahce and Manisasport in Istanbul.
