CLEVELAND (AP) — Indians pitching Tim Belcher has stepped down from that job to spend more time with his family.
Belcher spent two seasons on manager Manny Acta’s staff. He will return to a position as a special assistant in Cleveland’s front office, a spot he held from 2002-09. Belcher said he was afraid he would not be able to balance his job duties with the club and time with his family.
The Indians have not named a replacement for Belcher.
Belcher is the second Cleveland coach to leave his job in the past two days. On Wednesday, bench coach Tim Tolman revealed he has Parkinson’s disease. First-base coach Sandy Alomar has been tabbed as Tolman’s replacement, assuming he stays with the club. Alomar is expected to interview to be the Chicago White Sox manager.
