Hagan takes qualifying lead

MOHNTON, Pa. (AP) — Matt Hagan raced to the qualifying lead in Funny Car on Friday at the Auto-Plus NHRA Nationals at Maple Grove Raceway.

Hagan powered his 7,000 horsepower Dodge Charger to a 4.012-second run at 316.67 mph, the fourth quickest run in Funny Car history, to lead the 16-car field.

Qualifying continues Saturday with sessions at 11:15 a.m. and 2 p.m. for Sunday’s 11 a.m. eliminations.

Antron Brown (Top Fuel), Mike Edwards (Pro Stock) and Eddie Krawiec (Pro Stock Motorcycle) were also qualifying leaders at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series Event.

Brown, who is fighting for his first world championship, led the way in Top Fuel qualifying action on Friday with his 3.797 at 324.44, setting the track speed record on the evening session pass.
