Safeway has applied for city permits to build a vehicle fueling station and canopy in the parking lot of its east Vancouver grocery store off Southeast Mill Plain Boulevard and 136th Avenue.

The project would include five fuel dispensers and a cashier’s kiosk near the street entrance to the recently remodeled Safeway store. Safeway’s Mill Plain store is one block east of newcomer organic grocery store Chuck’s Produce and Street Market. Safeway also stands to compete with organic grocer New Seasons Market, set to open an east Vancouver store in November.
