When asked about the importance of Skyview’s resounding 61-6 victory of Lincoln of Portland on Friday night, Skyview coach Steven Kizer answer was surprising.
“It’s a big win since we’ve had trouble winning outside of Clark County,” he said.
And with Skyview traditionally scheduling tough non-league games, the results of those games aren’t hard to understand. Already this year, Skyview has played Sherwood, the reigning Class 5A champion, and Couer D’Alene of Idaho, another defending state champion.
But riding the 203 yards and 3 touchdowns of senior running back Parker Henry, the Skyview Storm ran over the undermanned Cardinals Friday night at Roosevelt High School in North Portland.
Parker scored twice in the first quarter, on runs of 20 and 27 yards. When Kieran McDonagh completed a 26-yard touchdown pass to Forest Russell, it was Skyview 21-0 over the Cardinal from the Portland Interscholastic League.
In the second quarter, Parker struck again, running for a 63 yard score, helping Skyview to a 33-0 lead.
McDonagh completed 12 of 14 passes for 144 yards and three touchdowns.
Skyview emptied its bench in the second half.
Henry was quick to spread credit when asked about his big night.
“The offensive line just opened some big holes that I was able to run through,” he said.
