St. Pierre lifts Blue Jackets over Hurricanes 3-2

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — Martin St. Pierre scored with 8:25 remaining to give the Columbus Blue Jackets a 3-2 win over the Carolina Hurricanes in a preseason game Friday night.

Alexandre Giroux and R.J. Umberger also scored for the Blue Jackets, who finished the preseason with a 5-2-1 record. Columbus will open the regular season Oct. 7 at home against Nashville.

Patrick Dwyer and Jussi Jokinen had the Hurricanes’ goals. Carolina (1-4-0) travels to Nashville for its final preseason game before opening the regular season against Tampa Bay.

The Hurricanes have scored only six goals in their four preseason losses.

Both teams used their top goalies. Steve Mason made 35 saves for the Blue Jackets, while Cam Ward had 29 for the Hurricanes.
