JOHANNESBURG (AP) -- The South African rugby team whose players drowned after being swept out to sea following a beach practice will still play in the tournament for which it was preparing.
Player manager Mncedisi Mazomba said Tuesday that Motherwell Rugby Club will compete in the four-day Lagunya Easter tournament in Cape Town, starting Friday.
The club is from an impoverished township in Eastern Cape province. It will make an emotional return to competition two weeks after six teammates, including the captain, drowned off the south-coast city of Port Elizabeth.
The players were among 21 people dragged away in strong currents after going for a swim to cool off following training. Lifeguards rescued 15 of them from the rips.
