OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — Lawmakers are continuing to negotiate toward a budget deal on the day Gov. Chris Gregoire has called the last opportunity to reach an agreement before another special session becomes more likely.

Democratic House Speaker Frank Chopp and Republican Sen. Joe Zarelli were scheduled to meet with the governor Tuesday afternoon.

A spokeswoman for the governor says there is still “a lot of frustration” and that the sides are “not close enough” to an agreement. She says it is too early to say whether a third special session to tackle the supplemental budget will be necessary.

Meanwhile, House Democrats plan to bring up nine bills related to a potential budget deal for a public hearing on Wednesday.
