SEATTLE (AP) -- A third-grader who was critically wounded in a Feb. 22 shooting at a Bremerton school is leaving a Seattle hospital.

Harborview Medical Center says Amina Kocer-Bowman is being released Tuesday afternoon.

She nearly died from the shooting that shattered an elbow and ripped through internal organs. She underwent five surgeries, and the bullet remains lodged in muscle near her spine.

The bullet fired from a .45-caliber handgun in the backpack of a 9-year-old classmate who brought it to Armin Jahr Elementary. The gun went off when he dropped his backpack on a desk.

The Kitsap County prosecutor charged his mother and her boyfriend with felony assault for negligently allowing the boy access to the gun. They have pleaded not guilty.
