PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Portland Mayor Sam Adams says the city needs an ordinance like one in Beaverton that bans the display of replica hand guns — toy or pellet guns that look like high-caliber weapons.
Adams says a ban could prevent some police shootings. Officers have shot two people this year in Portland who held realistic-looking guns.
KATU reports (http://is.gd/hPaiPk) Adams says the ordinance could be a warning to parents that their children shouldn’t be walking around in public with replicas.
The ordinance would not outlaw the replicas and it would be legal to fire pellets or paint balls on private property.
