CHICAGO (AP) — The Chicago Cubs have selected veteran right-hander Rodrigo Lopez’s contract from Triple-A Iowa and outrighted infielder Luis Valbuena to the minor league club.

The Cubs announced the moves before Saturday’s game against Washington.

Lopez made 16 starts and 26 appearances for Chicago last season, going 6-6 with a 4.42 ERA. He agreed to a minor-league deal in the winter and is expected to work out of the bullpen.

Valbuena was claimed off waivers from Toronto on Wednesday and appeared in 17 games with Cleveland last season.
