MOUNT VERNON, Wash. (AP) — It’s a bit of demotion, but state officials are considering renaming Skagit County’s nondescript Mount Washington to “Bryant Hill.”
The Skagit Valley Herald reports that (http://bit.ly/I4XaPN) Mount Washington’s possible renaming is one of 10 name changes for places in Washington being considered this year by the Washington State Department of Natural Resources’ Board on Geographic Names.
Rising to 2,698 feet, Mount Washington’s peak has no real view.
Retired aerospace engineer Fred Hermanspann proposed the name change because there is already two other Mount Washingtons in the state.
The name Bryant comes from the Bryant Lumber and Shingle Co., which logged trees in the area from 1892 to 1906.
