LONDON (AP) — Andy Murray says he is treating the tennis tournament at the London Olympics like a fifth Grand Slam.
The fourth-ranked Briton, who has never won a major, says “10 or 15 years ago, guys were skipping the Olympics. Everybody is playing it now — it’s like the slams.”
Murray lost in the first round at his only previous Olympics in Beijing in 2008.
He says he was “very nervous before I played, which normally tells you something of the significance.”
Murray has a hectic schedule this summer, with the Olympics coming after Wimbledon and before the U.S. Open.
Murray spoke Tuesday at a news conference to announce he will defend his Queen’s Club title at Queen’s before Wimbledon.
