Garcia-Lopez beats Fognini in 1st round in Morocco

CASABLANCA, Morocco (AP) -- Guillermo Garcia-Lopez of Spain beat Fabio Fognini of Italy 6-4, 3-6, 7-5 in the first round of the Grand Prix Hassan II on Monday.
The eighth-seeded Fognini had won both previous matches on clay, including in the third round of the French Open last year.
Garcia-Lopez will next play Paul-Henri Mathieu of France or Moroccan wild card Mehdi Ziadi.
Later Monday, fifth-seeded Donald Young of the U.S. plays Benoit Paire of France and Albert Montanes of Spain faces Igor Andreev of Russia.
