A Portland man was sent to the hospital Sunday afternoon after a tree fell on him near Lacamas Lake.

Michael Jackson, 39, of Portland was fishing with his girlfriend on the lakeshore near the 300 block of Southeast Leadbetter Road, said Sgt. Scott Boyles, Camas police spokesman.

Jackson’s girlfriend, Joanna Cardinal, 33, also of Portland, called 911 at 1:16 after a tree fell over both lanes of the road, hit Jackson’s 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe, the guardrail and Jackson, Boyles said.

The officer who responded told Boyles that Jackson would have sustained serious injuries or possibly been killed if the tree hadn’t hit the car and guardrail first.

Jackson was sent to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center with nonlife-threatening injuries, Boyles said. He was treated and released, PeaceHealth spokesman Ken Cole said Monday afternoon.

The road was cleared around 2:35 p.m. Sunday.
