Community notebook: Clark County bowling championship set

The 63rd Clark County Bowling Championship tournament will take place over the next three weekends at Allen’s Crosley Lanes in Vancouver.

Staged by the Clark County chapter of the United States Bowling Congress, the tournament is open to any bowler registered with the USBC. Registration details are available at any bowling center in Clark County, or by contacting the Clark County USBC at 360-694-6348.The annual Clark County USBC membership meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. on May 10 in the community room at the Clark Public Utilities office at 1200 Fort Vancouver Way.

Timbers support local soccer clubs

Several Clark County youth soccer clubs are included the Portland Timbers adopt-a-club program.

In partnership with sponsor CenturyLink in 2012, the Timbers provide players and coaches to serve as mentors to the youth club’s players and coaches throughout the season. Through the programs, Timbers players are paired with area clubs to help mentor coaches and players.

Brent Richards is the player assigned to mentor Camas-Washougal Soccer Club. David Horst is paired with Prairie Soccer Club. Futty Danso is paired with Vancouver Timbers (formerly Vancouver United).Among the program benefits, the participating clubs receive a clinic run by the mentor Timbers player, and a coaching clinic. They also receive on-field recognition of one selected youth player from the club at an upcoming Timbers home match.

Fast start at Woodburn Dragstrip

Two drivers from Clark County were among the victors on Sunday during the ET racing series at Woodburn Dragstrip in Woodburn, Ore.

Driving a 1972 Vega, Travis Hilton of Vancouver used a .022 reaction time to down Tom Avgerakis in the Super Pro finals.In Sportsman, Robert Glafka of Battle Ground drove his 1970 Torino to victory.

Girls lacrosse season resumes

The Evergreen Lacrosse Club high school varsity girls team returns to play with a match at 5 p.m. Wednesday against Graham-Kapowsin at Bethel High School.Evergreen (1-3-1) is third in its division of varsity play in the Washington Schoolgirls Lacrosse Association. Evergreen has a home game scheduled for 1 p.m. on Saturday against Tahoma at McKenzie Stadium.

Half marathon slated for Sunday

Max Muscle stores in Vancouver are staging a half-marathon run and walk on Sunday.

A benefit for the Humane Society of Southwest Washington, the event will include an 8-kilometer course in addition to the 13.1-mile half marathon. The races start at 8:30 a.m.
