Trevor Bayne not running Nationwide race at Texas

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Roush Fenway Racing did not enter Trevor Bayne in this week’s Nationwide Series race at Texas Motor Speedway.

A lack of sponsorship forced the team to sideline the No. 60 Ford, even though Bayne is ranked fourth in the series standings. He trails series leader Elliott Sadler by 34 points.

Roush team president Steve Newmark says the organization had hoped running Bayne in the first five races of the year would attract sponsorship to keep the team going deep into the season. Now, Newmark says the hope is to get Bayne back on track on a part-time basis in NASCAR’s second-tier series.

Bayne is scheduled to race this weekend in the Sprint Cup Series for the Wood Brothers. It will be his third Cup start of the year.
