SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — Spokane authorities say the 10-year-old daughter of a city police officer is in stable condition after being shot in the leg with her father’s duty weapon.

Officer Jennifer DeRuwe (De-ROO) said Tuesday that the Spokane County sheriff’s office has been asked to investigate last weekend’s accidental shooting. The Spokesman-Review reports that Officer Barry O’Connell has been placed on paid leave.

After the sheriff’s investigation is complete, DeRuwe says O’Connell will face an internal Spokane Police Department investigation into possible policy violations.

Details of the shooting were not immediately available.
