TACOMA, Wash. (AP) — Police say the pastor of a Tacoma church is recovering after an angry parishioner stabbed him.
Police spokesman Mark Fulghum (FUL’-jum) says the Rev. Peter Sayenko was punched in the face and stabbed in the back after meeting alone with the man Tuesday night in the church office. The 63-year-old pastor was treated at a hospital and released.
The News Tribune says Sayenko is the longtime pastor of Tacoma’s Slavic Christian Center.
Fulghum said Wednesday that police have arrested a man for investigation of first-degree assault.
The spokesman says the man had been receiving marital counseling from Sayenko and showed up at the church demanding to talk to the pastor.
