SYCAMORE, Ill. (AP) — An Illinois judge has found a Seattle man not guilty of raping an Illinois teenager 50 years ago.
DeKalb County Judge Robbin Stuckert announced the verdict Thursday in the trial of Jack McCullough, who was charged with rape and indecent liberties with a child in Sycamore, Ill., in 1962. His accuser testified that she was 14 when McCullough raped her and allowed two other men to do the same.
Prosecutors argued McCullough took advantage of the teen while he held a position of authority and trust.
But Public Defender Regina Harris said no one could corroborate the victim’s story and cited a lack of physical evidence.
McCullough is charged separately with the 1957 kidnapping and murder of a 7-year-old Sycamore girl. A trial hasn’t been scheduled in that case.
