SALEM, Ore. (AP) — An Oregon State Hospital employee who collapsed and died while helping other staffers try to restrain a patient has been identified as a 36-year-old Salem man.

Hospital spokeswoman Rebeka Gipson-King said Thursday that Matthew Barron died Wednesday night.

Barron was a mental health security technician at the psychiatric hospital and had worked there nearly three years. The spokeswoman says he leaves a wife and three children.

Gipson-King declined to provide details on the effort to restrain the patient.

Other staffers immediately began CPR on Barron but he was pronounced dead at Salem Hospital.

Oregon State Police Lt. Gregg Hastings says his agency investigated and determined that no crime took place. An autopsy was scheduled.
