A 24-year-old man was seriously injured Saturday when he was struck by a hit-and-run driver on Northeast Highway 99 in Vancouver.

The accident occurred about 4:30 p.m. Saturday, on the southbound side of the highway just south of Northeast 63rd Avenue, said Sgt. Chad Rothenberger of the Clark County Sheriff’s Office. At 5 p.m., authorities were still searching for the driver, who fled the scene in what is believed to be a red truck, he said.

The victim was transported to PeaceHealth Southwest Washington Medical Center and was reported in critical condition early Saturday evening.

The vehicle was reported to have “extensive” front-end damage as a result of the collision, Rothenberger said.
