Clark baseball sweeps, softball swept

The Clark College baseball team held off Grays Harbor on Saturday in Aberdeen, sweeping the NWAACC West Division doubleheader 6-3 and 2-1.

A six-run third inning was all Clark (17-7, 5-5) needed in the first game. Jordan Van Atta and Casey Sawyer each knocked in two runs with doubles and Nick Woods singled home two runs.

T.J. Pruneda went six innings for the win, striking out six and walking one.

Clark rallied for its two runs in the sixth inning of Game 2 to get the win.

Evan Pickett and Sawyer each had run-scoring doubles in the inning to overcome a 1-0 deficit from the first inning.

Ryan Schockey (5-1) went the distance for Clark, scattering six hits.

Clark and Grays Harbor will face off again on Sunday in a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Kindsfather Field.

SOFTBALL

Chemeketa swept an NWAACC South Division doubleheader on Saturday at Clark, defeating the Penguins 7-4 and 7-5.

Clark (5-11, 0-8) led 4-1 in the first game after four innings, but Chemeketa put three on the board in the sixth and seventh.

Sadie Petersen was 3 for 4 with a double and two RBI for Clark, and Kelsey Eason was 1 for 4 with two RBI.

In the second game, Clark led 4-0 after five innings. Chemeketa scored all its runs in the top of the seventh, and Clark could only get one back in the bottom of the inning.

Michele Westmoreland was 2 for 3 with two RBI.

Clark is next scheduled to play Wednesday at Lower Columbia.
