LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) -- Nebraska has canceled its spring football game because of strong storms.
A storm with heavy rain, hail and sharp lightning began moving through the area about 90 minutes before the scheduled kickoff Saturday. Fans hoping to wait out the storm congregated in the Memorial Stadium concourses but were not allowed to enter the stands. Other fans continued to tailgate in parking lots.
Nebraska officials decided to cancel rather than delay the scrimmage because of the threat of more strong storms and possible tornados later in the afternoon. Officials are discussing rescheduling the game.
Records show a spring game had been played every year at Nebraska since at least 1950.
