SALEM, Ore. (AP) — Salem police say a U.S. Fish and Wildlife officer who found a high school teacher and a 17-year-old student parked in a prohibited area of a wildlife refuge kept investigating after giving the teen a ride home.

Police Lt. Steve Birr says wildlife officer Rachel York told the teen’s parents about the incident after driving her home Friday night, then talked to the girl again on Saturday. Birr says the teen told York that her relationship with the older man was sexual. York notified Salem police.

On Monday, Sprague High School teacher Michael Montgomery was arrested for investigation of five counts of second-degree sex abuse.

Salem-Keizer School District spokesman Jay Remy says the 49-year-old Montgomery has been placed on paid administrative leave. He teaches English, Spanish, French and social studies.
