EDMONDS, Wash. (AP) — First lady Michelle Obama has brought some attention to an Edmonds group that looks out for military families.
The Daily Herald (http://is.gd/c4cSOh ) reports Edmonds resident Maria Montalvo was asked to attend a White House ceremony on April 11 to accept an award on behalf of the Our Families for Families First Foundation.
The award is given by the first lady as well as Jill Biden, the vice president’s wife, to recognize citizens and organizations that serve military families.
The Edmonds foundation gives grants and scholarships to children and spouses of active-duty military.
Since 2006 the foundation has awarded more than $3 million in $50,000 college scholarships and $5,000 educational grants.
