Kent State hires O'Banion as new women's coach

KENT, Ohio (AP) -- Danielle O'Banion has been hired as the new women's basketball coach at Kent State.

O'Banion, who spent the last four years at Memphis -- including the previous two as the associate head coach -- will be introduced at a press conference on Thursday.

She replaces Bob Lindsay, whose contract wasn't renewed after the season. The Golden Flashes went 6-21 this past year. It was only the third losing season in 23 years under Lindsay, who went 418-256 at the Mid-American Conference school.

O'Banion also was an assistant at Minnesota from 2003-07 before heading to Memphis. She played at Boston College, helping the Eagles to NCAA berths in 1999 and 2000.
