SILVERTON, Ore. (AP) — A state police bomb squad investigated what officers called a suspicious object in a wrecked car near Silverton Thursday morning.

The police didn’t describe the object specifically, saying that its appearance raised the possibility that it could be dangerous, and the bomb squad took steps from a distance to “render it safe.”

The police said 21-year-old Ivan Shubin of Turner was driving a car that left the road and hit a utility pole on Oregon 213 about 6:45 a.m.

The police said he was hospitalized and expected to live.
