Wilson’s spring overlooked during Petrino scandal

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) — Arkansas quarterback Tyler Wilson has earned rave reviews from coaches and teammates the last few weeks for his performance during spring practice.

Despite the praise, the first-team All-Southeastern Conference quarterback has been overshadowed by the scandal surrounding former coach Bobby Petrino.

Petrino was fired April 10 after he admitted to an affair and hiring his former mistress. He also gave her $20,000, which she used to buy a car.

During the Petrino saga, Wilson and his teammates have done their best to remain focused on football — and improving on an 11-2 record and Cotton Bowl win over Kansas State last season.

Wilson has done just that, even as Arkansas continues its search for a new coach. He’s completed 80 of 106 passes (76 percent) in the Razorbacks’ three scrimmages this spring.
